Halloween is a fun time of the year, a time for creativity, crafty costumes, carving pumpkins, and smothering your friends with ghoulish and ghostly desserts at every party this month. Holiday-themed desserts are my favorite! If you too are thinking out of the box this Halloween, try your hand at some of these treats that will stand out from the rest.
The ghost cupcakes above are really cute and all, but let’s start with something gruesome (or gruesomely awesome). Severed finger cookies, anyone?
Your friends and family will probably be less horrified if you go the pecan caramel spiders route. Truffle spiders would complete with pretzel legs could be a big hit with the kids.
You can’t go wrong with cupcakes, ever. I checked out a whole bunch of ideas and think you’ll really like the ghouly cupcakes, daddy long legs cupcakes, candy corn cupcakes, wicked (green!) cupcakes, and jack-o-lantern cupcakes (a custom look made easy with fondant).
The pull-apart graveyard cupcakes shown below fit together like a sheet cake, so you can decorate a whole scene, but dissect easily to make them great for a party. Consider a tray of tombstone treats for a similar effect!
Caramel apples can be made miniature, as bite-site party desserts. I share the full recipe over in this post.
Dirt with worms (also sometimes served in a mug as dirt cake) is a classic from my childhood, but I always had it made with store-bought worms. If you want to try your hand at DIY, here’s a sugar-free gummi worms recipe.
Another alternative to gummi worms are halloween worms made from gelatin, molded by plastic straws. The worms look incredibly realistic, don’t they? My kids are really into the slimy wildlife stuff, so I think they would find these delightful.
Maple cinnamon spider web fritters = must try. Leftover batter? Might make for fun spiderweb pancakes cooked on the griddle in the morning.
If your tastebuds call for something sweet and spicy, try pepitas popcorn balls and offer something different for dessert.
A ghostly pumpkin pudding or soufflé would be great for a small party, but a pumpkin bundt cake would be perfect for a larger group.
Looking for appetizer or entree ideas for your Halloween party? Here are a few to try!
